fantastic and unique
rectangular vintage Tole style hand painted tray that is signed by the
artist. The tray is attributed to the area of villages in and around
Zhostovo, Russia outside of Moscow. The detail and color of the bouquet of
pink, violet and white flowers with multi-shades of green leaves jump right out at you. It is so beautiful that the photographs do
not do it justice. There is a lacquer finish over the hand oil painting. The front portion of the metal ware tray overlaps onto the
back portion. The back and front of the tray are black with gold leaves
gracing the border, the bouquet fills the center. The artist signature is
red and in the lower right corner "Topaco Baill". The closer you
look the more detail you see, but it is also striking at a distance. This
beautiful piece of art could be displayed on the wall, propped on a plate holder
on a mantle, or placed on an ottoman and used for placing drinks, it is a
designers dream piece. This is a wonderful vintage hand painted piece that
would add
classic beauty to any room and would add grace to the most beautiful of homes.
Condition:
The condition is
very good, a beautiful well preserved hand painted tray. A few flaws to
mention, but they do not detract from it's beauty: surface scratching, minute
bubbling to lacquer finish, scratch to gold leaf paint, rim,
minute chips to black paint on back rim. All of the aforementioned flaws would be normal for
a vintage piece.

The village of Zhostovo outside Moscow is
a world-famous Russian folk art center. It's popular for their painted trays
decorated with bright bunches of flowers. The skillful and talented masters of
Zhostovo have turned these domestic utensils into real masterpieces of art.
The floral designs of Zhostovo trays
display beauty of nature and a cheerful, optimistic sense of life. Hand-drawn
flowers from the Moscow suburb are unique and famous throughout the world for
their color and beauty. Using a special double brush technique, the artists in
Zhostovo paint on a variety of objects, but the large Zhostovo metal trays make
for some of the most spectacular art piecesZhostovo trays are usually
black colored, but there may be some different colors, such as: green, blue,
ivory black, different shades of red and gold.
The trays are decorated with gaudy,
very beautiful flowers gathered in bouquets. Sometimes artists would paint
