A Morimura Brothers Nippon Lake Scene Cigarette Dresser Box |
|
This is an exquisite example of artistry and decorating from the Morimura Brothers Company, Japan that was produced in the early twentieth century. The lid is hand painted with a wonderful lake house scene and it is bordered by an elaborately decorated raised gold leaf frame with enamel jewelling. The sides are also decorated following this gold theme with leaf and bead swags and rose accents. This was probably a cigarette box but could also have been a jewelry, dresser or match box. This beautiful vintage piece of ceramic art will brighten up any room and would be useful for storing anything from hair pins to paper clips. It has the M in wreath Mark, dating it ca. 1911 - 1922. It is in good condition: the outside has some wear to the paint and gilt, the inside of the lid has a large chip to the rim, but it does not show when the lid is on. It measures approximately: 4 1/2"L by 3 1/4" W by 2 6/16" H
