A Vintage Nippon Hand Painted Powder Jar |
|
This is a lovely vintage Nippon powder jar that is decorated with hand painted pink roses, green leaves, decorative scrolling and a scalloped border of enameled beading. The maker is unknown, most of that portion of the mark has rubbed off. The portion with Hand Painted remains. It could be the Maple Leaf Nippon Mark which was sometimes printed in Magenta, which dates back to 1891. I believe this to be early twentieth century. That is when this type of design and powder jars were in favor. It is in very good condition, no chips or cracks, although it does have some paint and gilt loss. There is also one inverted bubble, that looks like a pin prick that is underglaze, produced during manufacturing. This beautiful collectible vintage jar is approximately 4 1/2" across. It would be great for storing jewelry, pins or even jelly beans and mints.
