Description:
You are bidding on a
wonderfully unique covered cow butter dish. It is white with a hand
painted blue and green flower and russet leaves traced with gilt. The
horns and beading on the dish are also gilt. The decoration was designed
in the Art Nouveau style. It is marked on the bottom of the dish in blue
ink, under glaze: BUFFALO POTTERY.
Condition:
Very good condition.
This is a beautiful quality piece, but it does have a few small flaws: there is
one chip to the inside rim of lid (it does not show from the outside), a minute
spec of color one corner, manufacturing pitting to the rear and some ware to the
gilt. You really don't notice, it is a beautiful decorative and useful
vintage piece.

Company: Buffalo Pottery Company was established in 1901 by John D. Larkin
in Buffalo, N.Y. Under the Buffalo Pottery name, from 1901 to 1940 they
produced a lot of quality custom orders for clients. In 1940 they started
using the Buffalo China mark instead of Buffalo Pottery. The company is
still in business today.
