You are viewing a
lovely triangular ceramic dish that has a reticulated border and is decorated
with the mixtion technique. It is a cream color dish with blue transfer
and hand painting. It is decorated in a wonderful classical design with green
and yellow paint inside the transfer and flowers gracing all corners on the
outside; with a lavender, dusty rose and rich green floral bouquet on the
inside. The back is marked: Wachtersbach with the bee hive and dated Dec. 2204.
in blue. It is also imprinted with the bee hive and the numbers 4911.
GW. This mark was used between c. 1900 and 1907 and the dish is dated
December 22, 1904. This is an exceptional and unique piece of antique
German ceramic art.
The
Waechtersbach Earthenware factory was established in Schlierbach, Hesse, Germany
in the year 1832 and is still producing ceramics today.
Condition:
The condition is good, a beautiful collectible piece of
German ceramic. Unfortunately it does have some flaws, three cracks on one
side of the dish. Two running vertically from the top rim and then
horizontally through the reticulated border; one of these has a small chip to
the outer rim. Some of the other crack can be seen outside also. They are
darkened some, so I believe that it has been this way for some time. The
third one is below and runs horizontally along the bottom inside where the side
meets the floor of the dish. This one may have been there since the
dish was produced. Two brown specks & blue ink nearby. The dish is still intact and beautiful though and if
you turn that side away it looks amazing. On the opposite inside area below the
reticulation there is a one inch crack in the center, not very noticeable.
