Vintage St. Clement French Majolica (Barbotine) Parrot Decanter |
|
For your consideration is a wonderful French Majolica (or Barbotine, as they call it in France) Parrot Decanter. It was made in one of Frances highly regarded factories (faienceries) called St. Clement which is located near Luneville France; it was produced early 1900’s. It is in very good condition, no cracks or chips, the stoppers are missing. There is all over gentle crazing, which is to be expected with age, but no discoloration associated with it. It is marked with the raised Garnier mark. This decanter pitcher made by St. Clement for Garnier can be seen in Maryse Bottero’s reference book, Pichets En Barbotine on page 42. Since this pitcher was made specifically for Garnier liqueur, St. Clement marked the pitchers Garnier, not St. Clement. This would be a great addition to any Majolica collection, or a nice accent piece for just about any room. It would look great in a study, kitchen or pub.
