Royal
Winton History: The
company was founded in 1885 as Grimwades Bros. in Stoke on Trent,
England. Winton Pottery was built in 1892. The Royal was added
as a prefix in 1930 following the royal patronage of King George the V and
Queen Mary. They were well renowned for there lithographed Chintz
wares.
In
the 1960's Royal Winton stopped producing the chintz. Managing
director Peter Griffin said the reason being is that cost effectiveness
took over at this point in time and they had to stop because chintz was
too labor intensive to produce. The company had to start making
shapes and using decorations that could be mass produced to keep up with
the competition. So, the expression is true, " They just don't
make things like they used to". This is your chance to own a
lovely vintage Royal Winton salt and pepper set that was produced in a
time when quality not quantity mattered. It is just a bid away.
