Antique Hand Painted Ceramic 19th Century European Bank |
|
This exceptional item was imported from France and is attributed to Bernhard Bloch of Austria, marked BB / 4106. B. Block and Company was established in 1871 and this appears to be one of the earliest pieces from the late 1800's before the company started producing Majolica. This bank has marvelous detail and the paint is in fairly good condition for the age of the item. It has a coin slot to put money in, and a larger slot to get it out. It has taken quite a beating on the bottom and the coin slot has damage. It looks like some child tried to get the money out by throwing it on the ground. Luckily they did not break it completely, thank goodness!! The damage just gives it more charm. There is pencil writing on the bottom, but I can not make out what it says. |
