		| 17th Century Brown Slag Beer Bottle Ascension Island |

		| This 17th century bottle has some interesting provenance.  Slag Beer Bottle History:  The British were planning on imprisoning Napoleon on Ascension Island, so they established a garrison there in the early to mid 1800's.  They changed their mind and sent him elsewhere, so the garrison was abandoned.  During the 50's the US set up a radar tracing station there, a man dug up these bottles during his spare time.  This bootle was obtained from him.  They are called "slag" bottles; the slag is a waste product from the iron smelting operation (melted sand). |
