Tole Style Hand Painted Metal Ware Tray Zhostovo Russia

Description:  You are viewing a fantastic and unique rectangular vintage Tole style hand painted tray that is signed by the artist.  The tray is attributed to the area of villages in and around Zhostovo, Russia outside of Moscow. The detail and color of the bouquet of pink, violet and white flowers with multi-shades of green leaves jump right out at you.  It is so beautiful that the photographs do not do it justice.  There is a lacquer finish over the hand oil painting.   The front portion of the metal ware tray overlaps onto the back portion.  The back and front of the tray are black with gold leaves gracing the border, the bouquet fills the center.  The artist signature is red and in the lower right corner "Topaco Baill".  The closer you look the more detail you see, but it is also striking at a distance.  This beautiful piece of art could be displayed on the wall, propped on a plate holder on a mantle, or placed on an ottoman and used for placing drinks, it is a designers dream piece.  This is a wonderful vintage hand painted piece that would add classic beauty to any room and would add grace to the most beautiful of homes.

Condition: The condition is very good, a beautiful well preserved hand painted tray.  A few flaws to mention, but they do not detract from it's beauty: surface scratching, minute bubbling to lacquer finish, scratch to gold leaf paint, rim, minute chips to black paint on back rim. All of the aforementioned flaws would be normal for a vintage piece.

Approximate measurements:  13 " L by 9 1/4 " W

This is a truly beautiful vintage art tray

Using a special double brush technique, the artists in Zhostovo paint on a variety of objects, but the large Zhostovo metal trays make for some of the most spectacular art piecesZhostovo trays are usually black colored, but there may be some different colors, such as: green, blue, ivory black, different shades of red and gold.

The trays are decorated with gaudy, very beautiful flowers gathered in bouquets. Sometimes artists would paint fruits, berries and very rare animals and insects.  Because of their beauty  Zhostovo's trays were always used as decorative as well as useful items: they were hung on the wall or put on a mantle or shelf. size="2">NThe works of Zhostovo artists are on display at various exhibitions and museums not only in Russia, but in many other countries as well
