Fish & Net Hispania Majolica Plate Spain

This is a fantastic vintage Majolica plate imported from Spain. The raised pattern is of a fish jumping from a fisherman’s net. The rim is blue changing to grey and back to aqua. This plate is marked HC/Hispania/Made in Spain. It is in very good condition with the exception of some small chips to the glaze on the front and some chipping to the foot rim and to the stilt marks on the back. The back also has a few small brown stains. Please view the photos. This is a handsome and unusual collectible for the Majolica lover or the fishermen. The plate measures 9"W. There are two other of the same plates available, each sold separately. About the Company: The Hispania company was founded in 1941 and was most noted for its production of amazing earthen wares and majolica; primarily decorative items such as vases, frames, planters, and the like. The Hispania Company was one of several companies in which the young Lladró brothers were apprenticed to their craft. After the Lladró brothers became successful, they returned, bought their old company and tried to make a "go" of it throughout the 80s, but unfortunately it closed in 1989. It is virtually impossible to set values on Hispania wares; they don't appear to have had much market exposure outside of Spain and are little known to most collectors. But these beautiful pieces of art pottery are as beautiful as any English or French plates that I have seen.
